Working At Heights Refresher

The working at heights training course is provided at both Toronto (Vaughan) and Ottawa locations. This program meets the standard mandated by the Ministry of labour as of April 01/2015 and is a Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) approved program.

All attendees must be 16 years or older to obtain Working at Heights.

Working at Heights – If a participant has never taken Working at Heights before, they are required to complete the full course.

If the full course was taken before April 1st, 2015, the full course must be retaken.

DURATION: 1 Full Day – (8 Hours) 8:00am – 4:00pm

INCLUDES: WHMIS and Worker/Supervisor Awareness

EXPIRATION: 3 years

GREATER TORONTO AREA PRICING: $200 plus tax

OTTAWA PRICING: $150 plus tax

Working at Heights Refresher – Once a participant has taken the full course and the certificate is close to expiration, to renew the certificate the refresher class must be taken.

If the full course was taken after April 1st, 2015, only the refresher course will be required.

DURATION: Half Day – (4 Hours) 8:00am – 12:00pm or 12:30pm – 4:30pm

Falls are a major cause of workplace injuries and deaths in Canada. Many of these falls are from heights. This working at heights (fall arrest training) course is meant to educate workers about how to safely work from heights and how to prevent falls from taking place. Participants will be educated on the various fall protection systems and learn the ideal circumstances for when each system should be used.

26.1 (1) A worker shall be adequately protected by a guardrail system that meets the requirements of subsections 26.3 (2) to (8). O. Reg. 145/00, s. 12.

(2) Despite subsection (1), if it is not practicable to install a guardrail system as that subsection requires, a worker shall be adequately protected by the highest ranked method that is practicable from the following ranking of fall protection methods:

  • 1. A travel restraint system

  • 2. A fall restricting system

  • 3. A fall arrest system

  • 4. A safety net

This course is for:

Training in this fall arrest training (working at heights course) is a mandatory requirement to work on any construction project in Ontario. This course is designed for people who will be working from heights, but the knowledge gained in this course will be applicable to everyone on a construction project.

The Ontario regulations for working at heights can be found in General Construction Sections 21-27 of the OHSA.

Working at Heights course is required for construction workers who use the following types of fall protection:

  • Travel restraint systems

  • Fall restricting systems

  • Fall arrest systems

  • Safety Nets

  • Work belts or safety belts
